FAQs

How long does one viewing take?
One full loop is approximately 32 minutes. Some visitors choose to stay for more than viewing in order to change their perspective as they watch the multiple screens.

Is there an age limit for viewing the installation?
There is no age limit, though parental advisory remains due to some disturbing content.

Is it useful for me?

As a work of art that bears witness to experiences of oppression, it is intended for all genders and orientations. The installation seeks to render visible and audible experiences otherwise hidden from mainstream public discourse in India and around the world: in this case, particularly submerged histories of women during conflict, local ways of remembrance and resistance in the face of sexual violence and repression.  The work spans time and geography from Partition to Nagaland, Kashmir to Khairlanji, weaving together an alternative and disturbing history of violence in the subcontinent.  Recent media attention on the rising incidence of sexual assault against women picks up on only one part of a much broader phenomenon of impunity and gender violence which this installation weaves together.
